Asbestos is often present in older homes. The material may be found in a range of materials, from insulation and paint to pipes and stove tops. Contact LA Testing Labs if you would like your home tested for the presence of asbestos.

A few places asbestos may be present in the home:

• Siding and roofing shingles

• Insulation in homes built between 1930 and 1950

• Textured paint and in patching compounds used on wall and ceiling joints in older homes

• Artificial ashes and embers sold for use in gas-fired fireplaces

• Older products such as stove-top pads

• Walls and floors around woodburning stoves

• Some vinyl floor tiles and backing on vinyl sheet flooring and adhesives

• The coating on hot water and steam pipes in older homes

• Oil and coal furnaces and door gaskets
